The MPSJA serves as the premier institution for imparting judicial education, training and grooming members of the District Judiciary in Madhya Pradesh.

Born out of a necessity for formal, institutionalized judicial training, the Academy aims to equip Judges with up-to-date legal knowledge and essential behavioural skills. It focuses on optimizing innate qualities to ensure Judges play an effective role in the justice delivery system.

To equip judges with up-to-date legal knowledge and to cultivate inherent qualities for effective performance within the justice delivery system through persistent acquisition and sharing of knowledge.
Motto of the Academy : "Pursuit of Excellence"

The conceptual seed was sown in 1974. After a resolution by the Full Court in 1989 and relentless academic efforts, the Judicial Officers' Training Institute (JOTI) was established in 1994 under the guidance of Hon'ble Shri Justice U.L. Bhat, the then Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh.

In September 2002, it was reorganized as the Judicial Officers' Training & Research Institute (JOTRI) to emphasize research. On March 12, 2014, it attained its current nomenclature: Madhya Pradesh State Judicial Academy.

New Milestone

The foundation stone of the new 42-acre Academy campus at Ring Road (Mandla–Nagpur Bypass Road), Jabalpur, was laid by Hon’ble Shri Justice Ravi Malimath, the then Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh.

The Academy provides comprehensive training spanning across several critical domains:

  • Induction & Foundational Training: For newly recruited Civil Judges and directly appointed District Judges.
  • Specialized Laws: Intensive programs on PC Act, NDPS Act, Juvenile Justice, and Cyber Laws.
  • Judicial Ethics: Inculcating strong ethical values and behavioural skills crucial for adjudication.
  • Modern Skills: Court & Time Management, IT applications & AI, and training sessions.
  • ADR & Research: Developing expertise in Mediation and conducting intensive research on Access to Justice.
  • Welfare: Focus on holistic well-being, including Stress Management and Yoga.

Since 1995, the Academy has been regularly publishing a bi-monthly law journal aptly named JOTI (meaning "the flame"). The journal is a vital resource for the District Judiciary, containing:
